Recent Non-profit Digital Work

Over much of the past 2 years I was doing digital work for a well known Minnesota non-profit organization.  It started out as as low time commitment advice and strategy role, but quickly escalated to a much more time demanding situation.  The more I dug into what they had and what issues there were facing, the more deeply I wanted to be involved.

Before long I was serving as chief strategist and owner of the backlog setting all next step work.  To increase our capacity for changes, I started learning Elementor, a popular site builder for WordPress.  My familiarity with HTML, CSS and WYSIWYG builder Dreamweaver certainly helped, but I spent a lot of hours watching instructional videos on YouTube in order to meet a pressing deadline.  With a real push for the last 4 weeks, I was able to implement numerous improvements to the navigation, content organization and quality, marketing, and eliminated numerous UX problems.  The result was during the key annual event web traffic increased several times over what had been considered the maximum the year before, and the site broke for a couple hours until we could rush an emergency server upgrade through.  I was sorry for the outage, but thrilled with the increase in traffic.

After the major event I went right back to work laying out a plan for the next year.  In addition to an enhanced backlog of next steps and new content and features, I took it upon myself to create a detailed roadmap laying out our mission, objectives, recommended priorities for the following year backed by the rational for each.  It was a multi-pronged approach to improving the marketing and reputation of the organization, while driving more community involvement, increasing donations, sponsorships, merchandise sales and other revenue generating actions.  I believe this document is an excellent and recent example of my ability to think through and communicate problems, set priorities, and prioritize solutions.  There is nothing proprietary in this document, and I will proudly share it with anyone who would like to take a peek. Shoot me an email.
